Our Saviour's Hurricane Response

There are two important ways you can support recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. First, through our Tools for Hope project, we are collecting essential tools to help residents clear debris and begin rebuilding. Second, by participating in our Hurricane Helene Food Drive, you can donate much-needed food items to support families impacted by the storm. Your contributions will make a difference as we work together to provide relief and hope to our neighbors in need.

Tools For Hope

A Project of Our Saviour Lutheran Church (Southern Pines) and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Brevard)

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, trees and brush cover the landscape making road passage and home access difficult for many. Debris removal will allow clothes, food and other supplies to be distributed to families in need. Tools for Hope is an initial recovery outreach project enabling first phase recovery with chainsaws, pole saws, rakes, axes, hand tools and work gloves to be loaned to Western North Carolina locals impacted by Hurricane Helene for tree and brush removal. Once the initial recovery phase ends, the tools will be donated to the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (www.abccm.org) who will provide ongoing support to Asheville, North Carolina area recovery.
Needed Items:  20-inch gas and battery-operated chainsaws, 8-inch gas and battery-operated pole saws, welded steel lawn rakes, pick axes, steel splitting axes, steel camp axes, shovels, premixed small engine 2-cycle fuel, contractor grade 3-mil trash bags, conventional bar and chain oil, leather and polyester work gloves.

Hurricane Helene Food Drive

Triangle Conference (NC Synod-ELCA)

In response to Hurricane Helene, the Triangle Conference of the North Carolina Synod - ELCA is launching a Food Drive during the months of October and November. Our Saviour is a member of the Triangle Conference and is joining other Lutherans from our region in sending food to our neighbors in Western North Carolina. Our Saviour has been asked to collect Canned Meat, Cereal and Pop Tarts.  Final delivery will be to Living Waters Lutheran Church, Cherokee, North Carolina on behalf of Manna Food Bank of Western Carolina that was devastated by the Hurricane.  Our Saviour has partnered with Trinity Lutheran Church in Sanford for aid in transport of gathered items to Raleigh. Kai Thurow (former Youth Director of Our Saviour) is managing transport of Triangle area food gifts from Raleigh to Cherokee.
